The Natchez Board of Aldemen voted Tuesday night to approve of traffic cameras place on certain intersection signals to photographically capture red light violators.

Any violators will be sent a $120 ticket in the mail.

Alderwoman Joyce Arceneaux-Mathis said motorists will not be ticketed for running a yellow light, but should be cautious nonetheless.

“When that light turns yellow, you might want to stay where you are,” she said.

Alderman Bob Pollard said it’s not just about handing out tickets and Alderman Mark Fortenbery agreed.

“It’s a good security issue here, there could be a lot of good benefits,” he said.

Mayor Jake Middleton said there will be public notification as well as signage at the location of each camera.
