Smith runs for reelection to commission

Evelyn H. Smith announces her run for re-election as the District 3 Election Commissioner for Adams County.
Smith has served as an election commissioner since 2000. Smith is a native of Natchez and a widower with three children, four grandchildren and three godchildren. She is also a member of Milford Baptist Church.
Smith’s attended Alcorn State University and the University of Southern Mississippi, where she earned Bachelor of Science and Masters of Education degrees in Elementary Education. Most recently, Smith earned a degree in Educational Administration from Alcorn State University.
“In 2000 and 2004, when I placed my hand on the Bible, I took an oath for this job very seriously,” Smith said. “As public servants, our performance not only must satisfy each of us personally, we must also satisfy our constituencies, you the voter.”
“An election commissioner’s performance is not that of saying, ‘I will try.’ It is ‘I shall,’” Smith said.
Smith promises to accurately and in a timely manner update the voter roll, hire poll workers, conduct poll worker training sessions, run elections according to state and federal statutes and train voters on how to operate voting machines.
Currently Smith is the secretary to the Adams County Election Commission. She is the director of training and education for the Election Commission Association of Mississippi. As director of training for the state of Mississippi, in conjunction with the Secretary of State’s office, Smith plans and conducts certification and training workshops for county election commissioners, municipal election commissioners and executive party members (Democrat and Republican).
