Steven Sumpter announced his candidacy for Adams County Election Commissioner in District 3.

For more than 20 years, Sumpter has volunteered his time to assist with the Natchez-Adams School District athletic program and the school office.

“Helping the children of our community is a great privilage for me,” Sumpter said. “I like to tell them to listen to adults, do what they are asked and help others.”

Sumpter also believes that this advice applies to election commissioners, who are responsible for the elections in Adams County. Sumpter believes election commissioners need to listen to voters, be accountable for fair and honest elections and help the people of Adams County.

“As District 3 Election Commissioner, I pledge to be responsive to the needs of Adams County voters and to make sure county elections are conducted in a fair and efficient manner,” Sumpter said.

For Sumpter, the job of an election commissioner is very important to county government. In addition to running elections, election commissioners maintain the voter rolls for the county.

“Keeping the voter rolls current is important not only for elections, but also for the efficient operation of the court system, since potential jurors are selected from the county’s list of registered voters,” Sumpter said.

“Over the years I have earned a reputation as a dependable person who works hard to get the job done, and I am ready to go to work for you as District 3 Election Commissioner. I ask for your vote on Nov. 4,” Sumpter said. “Together we can insure fair and honest elections in Adams County.”
