Ferriday’s fate is in hands of residents

A few resourceful, hard workers in Ferriday are giving the community members a chance to improve their own quality of life.

Now it’s up to the residents to take hold of the outstretched hand.

Saying no to a safer Ferriday would seem unfathomable, but so far organizers haven’t had the help they should.

Members of the Ferriday Community Action Group have been talking for months about starting a Neighborhood Watch in town. They have the backing of the police and the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office, yet they are missing one key element — enough neighbors.

The team leading the charge has outlined a detailed plan that would cover the town and likely put a good dent in crime.

Approximately 50 people attended an organizational meeting Wednesday night, but many more participants are needed.

The only folks who have an excuse valid enough to ignore pleas to join the group are the criminals. Everyone else should have a vested interest in seeing this group thrive.

Thank yous and praise should be directed to those who have already taken steps to make this project a reality.

But only time will tell if the people of Ferriday want to save themselves.
