With a long campaign season behind us and a new president headed to the White House, last week definitely brought some good news.

Miss-Lou voters came out in droves.

In Adams County, voter turnout was approximately 70 percent — at least 20 percent higher than the 2004 presidential election numbers.

In Concordia Parish the numbers were much the same, and higher than long-time Clerk of Courts Clyde Ray Webber has ever seen.

It’s great to see so many Americans involved in the political process, and we hope those number continue to rise.

But the election wasn’t the only big news of the week. Let’s review a few other good headlines.

4 Crowds gathered once again at the City Cemetery Friday and Saturday nights, all to hear a few true tales. The ninth annual Angels on the Bluff was an obvious success, and we know the funds raised from the event will be put to good use maintaining the cemetery.

4 Mississippi is getting healthy and Adams County is moving right along with it.

Let’s Go Walkin’ Mississippi hit downtown Saturday morning, and close to 100 walkers took a stroll for their health. We hope the walking will continue and our area residents can remain healthy and fit.

4 A newly formed 4-H club in Natchez isn’t your grandmother’s cow raising club. The teens aren’t focused on farming, but instead on leadership training and community involvement. A group like this is exactly what today’s children need, and we are happy to see the club up and running.
