Pause today, remember our heroes

For far too many Americans, today will be just another day, nothing special, just a Tuesday in November.
But each of us owes today — and every other day that we live in a safe, peaceful country — to the men and women who have served and are serving in our armed forces.
Today is Veterans Day, the holiday our nation sets aside to remember the people who have devoted all or a portion of their lives to protecting and serving our nation at home and abroad.
Locally, a special Veterans Day program will be at 11 a.m. today at Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Natchez.
Patriotic songs and even poetry inspired by soldiers’ stories will be presented at today’s program.
As part of the Veterans Day celebration, Co-Lin is collecting items for both veterans at home and soldiers currently serving overseas.
From the relative safety and comfort of our houses, it’s sometimes easy to forget that we’re a nation at war, with two foreign military operations under way.
With each passing second American lives are at stake, each prepared to give the ultimate to serve the country they love.
Try to attend today’s Veterans Day program if you can. If not, say a prayer for our veterans and say “thanks” the next time you see someone who served our great country.
