CLINTON, La. — In just their second game of the season, the Trinity Saints men’s basketball team appears as though they have been practicing all fall.

That’s not the case, however, as the boys were focused on football until losing in the second round of MPSA Class AA playoffs to Oak Forest on Saturday.

Despite the inexperience, the Saints jetted past Bowling Green 53-47 in the Silliman Institute Tournament Wednesday in Clinton, La.

Trinity held just a one-point lead after the first quarter and the teams were tied at halftime.

But 20 points in the third quarter lifted the Saints, and they held the lead in the fourth quarter to defeat the Buccaneers.

Givonni Dent led Trinity with 18 points, followed by Andrew Johnson, who scored 17 points and added 12 rebounds for a double-double.

Brandon Daggs recorded 11 steals to go alongside his 11 points, and Bryant Pearson and Jackson Bryant rounded out the scoring with 4 and 3 points, respectively.

Jaron Goward led the Buccaneers in scoring with 20 points as the only Bowling Green player in double-digits.
