NATCHEZ — Stout defense and a 27-2 halftime lead propelled the Trinity Lady Saints to a 43-16 win over the visiting Centreville Lady Tigers Monday night.

Trinity played the press at the beginning of the game and forced Centreville to turn the ball over early and often.

The Lady Tigers’ only two points in the first half came via Haley Mann who was one of only three scorers for Centreville in the game.

“Our execution on offense was better,” Trinity head coach Richy Spears said. “We didn’t look tired.”

The Lady Saints continued to play well throughout the second half while holding Centreville to only 14 points in the half.

“I liked our intensity in the first half,” Spears said. “We played well on defense. It was a better effort and everyone got playing time.”

Caroline Ketchings led all scorers with 13 points while her teammate Madelyn Cross added 11 to the Lady Saints effort.

Olivia Ledbetter scored eight points to lead Centreville.

Trinity plays Hillcrest tonight at home.

Trinity boys 71, Centreville 51

It started out as a physical battle, but the Centreville offense couldn’t hold up, and Trinity took an easy 71-51 win over the Tigers Monday night at home.

Trinity scored first on a Brandon Daggs jumper and took a quick 10-2 lead over the Tigers

Centreville committed seven fouls in the first quarter including a technical foul that helped contribute to the Saints’ 25 points in the quarter.

“We started out quick and I’m seeing signs of us getting better,” Trinity head coach David King said. “They are getting used to playing together and we are able to go deeper than we have been.”

The Tigers outscored Trinity in the second and third quarters, but couldn’t chip away at the Saint lead enough to get back in the game.

“Centreville is well coached and very athletic,” King said. “They should be the favorite in their district and I look for them to do very good this year.”

Andrew Johnson led all scorers with 20 points. Teammate RJ Fleming added 12 points to the Saints’ effort.

Kyle Brown led Centreville with 18 points.
