Vaughan’s Café closes in downtown Natchez

On Thursday, Vaughan’s Café and Bakery didn’t open their doors — and they won’t be open anytime in the near future.

Owner Suzi Vaughan said the business simply wasn’t making enough money to support their staff and cost of operation.

“It’s a sinking ship,” she said.

Vaughan also said her family could no longer supplement the business’s losses with their personal savings.

Open for less than two years, Vaughn said the business began to slow months ago when the lunch buffet was removed.

The buffet was removed because some customers were stealing food and driving up Vaughan’s costs.

“You can eat as much as you want, but I never meant for people to take it home,” she said.

The buffet was eventually brought back, but not soon enough to save the business.

Vaughan said she hopes to reopen the restaurant one day.

“Right now we just can’t do it,” she said.
