Why are 18-wheelers on Main Street?

I would like to know why the downtown portion of Main Street allows 18-wheelers with huge fuel tanks to barrel down our quiet downtown.
It is very scary to have these large tractor-trailers going through town at 35 mph. Again trying to catch every green light.
Today there have been three, they all look alike, I’m sure all work for the same person. These trucks should be using a truck route not Main Street. The weight of these semis is around 80,000 lbs. Can you imagine the damage to our old historic street?
Who are these people?
They certainly are not delivering goods to stores on Main Street.
