TYLERTOWN — Six Dexter players scored at least six points as the Bulldogs rolled to a 61-35 win over Cathedral Friday night to stay undefeated in Region 8-1A.

Chris Conerly and C.J. Magee led Dexter (N/A, 3-0) with 10 points apiece. Ron Harvey had eight points and Deonle Alford, Marcus Holmes and Charles Causey each finished with six points.

“We were fighting an uphill battle the whole game. They’re very good. They’re very athletic,” Cathedral head coach Peter Arnold said. “They beat West Lincoln 69-45. They looked like the number one team in the district.”

And that couldn’t have been more true than in the first half — and especially the first quarter. Dexter used a variety of defenses to confuse Cathedral and it worked almost to perfection. At the end of the first quarter the Bulldogs had a 20-2 lead. By halftime, they had a commanding 40-10 lead.

“They played mixed man-to-man with a 1-3-1 with a half-court press. We told them not to turn the ball over and they did the exact opposite,” Arnold said.

Cathedral’s offense woke up in the fourth quarter, but by then it was way too late. Carl Hammitte led the Green Wave (1-9, 1-1) with a game-high 20 points, but he was their only player to score in double figures.

Trinity Episcopal 68,

Centreville 60

CENTREVILLE — Had Trinity Episcopal made more free throws than it did, the Saints could have defeated the Tigers by 20 points, if not more, Friday night. Instead, they had to settle for an eight-point win.

In one of the most unusual games so far this season, Trinity Episcopal was called for 24 fouls while Centreville was whistled for 38 fouls. The Saints attempted an astounding 53 free throws, but they made just 24 of them.

Meanwhile, Centreville got back in the game by making five of its nine-three pointers in the fourth quarter, but the Tigers couldn’t make enough stops on the defensive end to pull out the win.

Brandon Daggs led Trinity Episcopal (9-2) with 17 points and Givonni Dent had a double-double with 16 points and 15 rebounds. Andrew Johnson also had a double-double for the Saints with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Kyle Brown led Centreville with a game-high 19 points and Jamie Dezendorf added 12 points.

Tensas Academy 57,

Tallulah Academy 44

ST. JOSEPH, La. — Tensas Academy broke a 24-24 halftime score by exploding for 20 points in the third quarter, and that proved to be the difference as the Chiefs defeated the Trojans in District 6-A play for their first win of the season.

Tensas Academy was outscored by Tallulah Academy 14-10 in the second quarter as both teams went into the locker room all tied up. But that would not last long as the Chiefs outscored the Trojans 20-7 in the third quarter and they held on for the 13-point win.

“We got hot and shot well. We went back to our man defense and it worked for us,” Chiefs head coach Allen Crigler said when he described how his team turned things around in the third quarter.

Austin Emfinger led Tensas Academy (1-7, 1-0) with 18 points and J.T. James had 15 points. This was the first game this season in which the Chiefs had their full compliment of players.

WCCA 65, Huntington 43

WOODVILLE — Todd Gonda led all scorers with 25 points and Tip McKenzie had 17 points as the Rams took care of the Hounds Friday night to remain undefeated in District 6-A.

Huntington did its best to stay in the game with WCCA (8-3, 2-0) and was down by just seven points at halftime. But the third quarter proved to the Hounds’ undoing as the Rams outscored them 19-9 to take a 17-point lead into the fourth quarter.

Phillip Washington led Huntington (1-1 in district) with 17 points and Josh Lee chipped in with 13 points.

Oak Forest 70, ACCS 57

AMITE, La. — Led by Brock Banos and Drew Misita, the Oak Forest Yellow Jackets defeated the ACCS Rebels Friday night.

Banos led Oak Forest with 22 points and Misita had 14 points. Also scoring in double figures for the Yellow Jackets was Travis Thornton with 12 points. Oak Forest turned a close game early on into a rout by the end of the third quarter, when they enjoyed a 19-point lead.

Joe Barksdale led ACCS (3-7) with 22 points while Lee Swinny had 15 points and Daniel Guedon scored 10 points.
