FERRIDAY — A local man was arrested on allegations he tried to kill another person in what is reported to be a turf war.

Metro Narcotics in Natchez arrested L.J. Bingham, 32, 3511 Calhoun Road, Ferriday, on a warrant for attempted second-degree murder and possession of firearm on premises Tuesday.

The incident for which Bingham was charged happened Dec. 12.

The warrant for Bingham’s arrest originated with the Ferriday Police Department

According to a statement made by the victim, a 44-year-old male, Bingham and the victim were reportedly involved in a dispute about turf on Sixth Street, Ferriday Assistant Police Chief Johnny Evans said.

Following the initial dispute, the two met up again near the Topcats club at the intersection of 10th Street and Delaware Avenue, Evans said.

During the altercation on 10th Street, Bingham allegedly pulled a gun and when the victim attempted to leave the area Bingham allegedly fired and shot him in the arm, Evans said.

The suspect is currently being detained without bond.

Bingham was arrested in October on drug charges, which included possession of schedule II drugs (crack cocaine), possession of marijuana (second offense) and resisting an officer by flight.

In that incident, his bond was set at $25,000.
