WOODVILLE — Two bodies from last week’s fiery auto accident in Wilkinson County have still not been identified.
But progress has been made in the investigation.
Mississippi Highway Patrol Sgt. Rusty Boyd said the two burned bodies have been tentatively identified.
However, Boyd was quick to point out that the identifications could not be deemed positive yet.
“We’ve got some people we’re looking at,” he said “But at this time we just don’t have a positive ID.”
And until those identifications have been confirmed, Boyd isn’t releasing any names.
Boyd said the identification process has been made especially difficult since both passengers were burned beyond recognition and because the vehicle had no license plate and its vehicle identification number could not be located.
Boyd said the VIN could have melted in the fire or could have been covered in burned debris.
The next step is to attempt to locate the VIN on the frame of the vehicle.
The Dec. 31 accident also took the lives of Dijonaise Rutledge, 15, and Essie Green.
Boyd said it’s believed the burned vehicle, a full-sized SUV, was the cause of the accident.
Both Green and Rutledge were thrown from their vehicle when the SUV crashed head-on into their smaller SUV traveling on Mississippi 24.
