FERRIDAY — A Monroe woman was arrested after allegedly cashing stolen checks in Ferriday.
Karesia Tiayo Wilson, 26, 53 Holiday Drive, Monroe, was arrested Tuesday on charges of felony theft and attempted theft.
Wilson had already allegedly cashed one check that was stolen from what Ferriday Police Assistant Chief Johnny Evans described as a “large company” when she tried to cash a second one at Kaye’s Market in Ferriday.
“They figured out what was going on, and when they questioned her, she left the store and took off,” Evans said.
The store contacted the police, and when they stopped Wilson, they reportedly found several more checks from the company in her possession.
The information on the ill-gotten checks was computer generated, Evans said.
“We don’t have any idea how she got ahold of them,” he said.
It is unknown at this time if Wilson was working by herself or if other individuals were involved in the commission of the crime.
When police stopped Wilson, there were three other females in the car, but because none of them had any of the checks on their person they were released, Evans said.
Evans said the police did not want to release the name of the company the checks were stolen from in case there were any more of them being circulated.
Wilson was magistrated in Seventh Judicial District Court Wednesday morning, and her bond was set at $17,500.
