VIDALIA — A Ferriday man decided he could only run for so long before the law caught him, and so he turned himself in earlier this week.

Orlando Jamar Gipson, 20, 153 Earl Davis Lane, Ferriday, turned himself in and was booked on charges of simple escape, driving under suspension, resisting an officer by flight, possession of a firearm on the premises of a place where alcoholic beverage are sold, disturbing the peace by loud music and simple theft.

Gipson was initially arrested Nov. 28 when a Vidalia officer reportedly initiated a traffic stop for a loud music violation outside of Danny’s Lounge on Clinton Street in Vidalia, Vidalia Investigator Randy Stockman said.

During the stop, police discovered that Gipson’s license was suspended and that he had a weapon on his person. The officer handcuffed him and placed him in the back seat of the police vehicle, Stockman said.

But Gipson allegedly got out of the car with the handcuffs on and ran away, Stockman said.

When he learned there was a warrant out for his arrest, however, Gipson turned himself in to the Vidalia Police.

“(Gipson) said he wanted to get it all behind him,” Stockman said.

Along with the escape and flight charges, Gipson was charged with theft for running away with the handcuffs, Stockman said.

The suspect was magistrated in Seventh Judicial District Court Thursday, and his bond was set at $11,750.
