NATCHEZ — The community will have a change to unite as one group during the Mission Mississippi “Day of Dialog” today.

Mission Mississippi is an organization that’s goal is to bring unity among races and denominations.

“There is only one heaven for the body of Christ,” said the Rev. John Scott, pastor of Christian Hope Baptist Church in Natchez. “When we get to heaven, there isn’t going to be one heaven for this race an another for that race.”

The “Day of Dialog” is a one-day event set up to have open communication between community members.

The event is from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. today at the Steckler Building on the campus of Natchez High School.

Registration is from 8 until 8:30 a.m. at Steckler.

Scott said events like the “Day of Dialog” are helpful in creating greater understanding between different groups.

“You may work with a person of another race but never talk about things that are important to your race,” he said. “Following work we go our separate ways, attend separate churches and most of our children attend separate schools.

“Getting to know a person different from us must be intentional and not left to chance.”

The free event is open to the public. Scott encouraged everyone to attend saying that more diversified the audience the more successful the program will be.

He said anyone attending the program will leave more educated than when they came.

“A person attending the event will realize how little they know about people of other races and denominations,” he said. “It should be a good stepping stone.”
