NATCHEZ — Despite a74-52 win over Wilkinson County Christian and a 19-4 record, Trinity just is not playing the way it should.

That is what coach David King thinks, anyway, and it’s what he expressed to his team in a private meeting following the Saints’ win Saturday afternoon.

“We just have not played four quarters of good basketball in quite some time now,” King said. “I’m a little concerned about our starts recently.

“We had a pretty long talk after the game, and we realized at this late portion of the year, we’re certainly not giving our best basketball.”

The Saints trailed the Rams by one at the end of the first quarter before going on a second-quarter surge where they scored 20 points to the Rams’ 15.

Following the half, Trinity was showed much more of the team King expects by scoring 27 in the third to put WCCA away.

“Our pressure wore them down a little bit,” King said. “They got in foul trouble early, and we were able to take advantage of the fact that they had a couple key players sitting on the bench.”

Still, King knows the game could have been iced much sooner, and he expects things to turn around soon.

“I was just disappointed at our intensity during the course of the game,” he said. “There were spurts of very good play followed by lags where we were not very enthused with being there. We expect more than the effort they’ve been giving.”

The Saints take on an entirely new opponent Monday — but one they are very familiar with — when they travel across town to play Cathedral for the first time ever.

“We’ve got to put our best effort into it, and we just haven’t been doing that the last couple weeks,” King said. “Hopefully my seniors can help us get that back before Monday.”

Trinity girls 74, WCCA 34

Caroline Ketchings scored 25, Madelyn Cross put up 15 and Danielle Givens added 10 in the Lady Saints rout of Wilkinson County Christian Saturday.

Trinity scored 28 points in the first quarter while the Lady Rams scored just 5, and the Lady Saints never let up.

Trinity, now 15-10, had 10 total scorers, taking a 45-20 halftime lead. The Rams never even made a late charge — they scored just 4 in the fourth quarter.

Allie Fontenot, with 20 points, was the only Ram in double figures.
