NATCHEZ — It’s not the movie theater, but the First Assembly of God in Natchez will look like one Saturday night.

The church will open its sanctuary doors for a public showing of the movie “Fireproof” at 6 p.m. Saturday.

The movie, directed by Alex Kendrick, the director of “Facing the Giants,” was released in 2008 and tells the story of firefighter struggling to save his marriage. To do this the firefighter takes advice from his father and begins and 40-day experiment called the love dare.

The movie chronicles the couples journey from the brink of divorce.

After viewing the movie as a congregations, First Assembly of God decided a public showing for the community was needed.

“We were already familiar with “Facing the Giants,” said Beverly Laurant, the church’s secretary. “We just wanted to do an outreach to the community since the movie didn’t come to Natchez.”

She said that while the movie focuses on the struggles of a married couple, it offers useful insight for singles as well.

“There were several practical things that apply to everyone,” she said. “It was very realistic with the struggles and the dedication.

“It showed how one person, sticking it out, can change things.”

She said one of the main things she took from her viewing of the movie was the need for reconciliation in relationships.

“And not just a husband and wife relationship,” she said “It’s an important lesson for any relationship — family and friends.”

There is no charge for admission and Laurant estimated the sanctuary seats at least 150.
