Natchez — Click, click, click. That’s the sound from the cameras of 4-H youth in the 4-H photography project.
Whether a budding photographer just learning camera basics, or a camera buff with several contests to their credit, dozens of pictures are taken by 4-Hers to be used for various projects and contests.
Photography is a fun and challenging project. 4-H photography members can put into practice what they learn from their club leaders, 4-H photography project books, workshops, tours, contests and professional photographers. This project also supplements other 4-H projects and activities by providing documentation for community service projects, record books, Websites, newsletters and portfolios.
Participants begin their work at the county level and can move to district, state, regional or national events.
The photography contests are open to youth ages 8–18. The criteria varies with age levels and the theme, subject or type of contests. Some contests have general themes, while others have specific themes such as the Horse or Entomology Photography Contest.
Whether the subject is horses, insects, flowers, birds or nature scenes; young people with an interest in photography can find a place in the 4-H photography project. For more information contact the Extension Office at 601-445-8201.
