VIDALIA — The Concordia Parish Police Jury’s efforts to redistrict using the 2010 census numbers reached a conclusion Monday evening at the jury’s regularly scheduled meeting.

The jury voted and approved two ordinances related to the redistricting plan, and Concordia Parish Police Jury President Melvin Ferrington said this was the final step in the redistricting procedure.

The first ordinance adopted the police jury voting districts and designated districts by precincts.

The second one amended precinct ordinances the jury previously adopted, defined the territorial limits and described the boundaries of the amended precincts. It also established polling places.

Ferrington said all the polling places would stay the same except for the one at Louisiana Technical College, Shelby Jackson Campus, which was temporarily moved to the Ferriday U-Pak until renovation work on the campus can be completed.

Concordia’s redistricting plan saw only two major changes to it, with the first change moving people from District 4 to District 5-A.

The area that would move into District 5-A would be the area from Rabb Road to Levens Addition Road.

The second proposed change was to add more people into District 2 from District 3.

The change would move the Vidalia Meadows and Vidalia Manor apartment complexes on U.S. 84 into District 2 from District 3.

Ferrington said the parish worked hard on the redistricting plan, and that he knew the right changes were made.

In other news:

• The jury awarded Overhead Doors of the River Cities out of Ferriday the bid for the maintenance unit roof project.

Juror Randy Temple said the company submitted the only bid for the project at approximately $45,000.

“That is $16,000 more than the grant we have for the project is,” he said.

Even with the added cost, the jury voted to approve the company for the project, and Temple said the jury would pay for the remaining costs of the project.

Temple also said some elements of the project will be cut out to save money.

• The jury granted approval to Sportsman’s Lodge to install 150 feet of sewer line on Fisherman’s Lane in the parish.

Ferrington said the lodge is having trouble with their sewage, and they wanted to fix the problem.

“I don’t see any problem with them fixing anything,” he said.

• The jury voted to appoint Riverland Medical Center Administrator Lana Stamper to the Sixth Planning District Consortium Local Workforce Investment Board.

Ferrington said the board has had a vacancy for quite some time, and that Stamper was the best fit for the position.
