Krewe of Alpheus announces king, queen for 2009

Natchez — The Krewe of Alpheus recently announced the 2009 King Alpheus XVIII and Queen Arethusa XVIII.

Queen Amanda Kay Floyd

She is a lifelong resident of Natchez, and is married to Sam Floyd. Together they have three children Lillie Kay, 2, Beth, 17, and Clay, 21.

She is the daughter of Kevin and Donna Smith and the late Sharon Kay Leachman. Floyd is employed as the administrator at Glenburney Rehab and Healthcare for the past five years. She holds a bachelor of science degree in health administration from the University of Southern Mississippi. She has volunteered with Relay for Life as well as a Memory Walk to benefit research for Alzheimer’s.

She is a member of the Krewe of Alpheus for the past 10 years and she has served on the Krewe of Alpheus board as corresponding secretary and royalty vice president.

Floyd loves to spend time with her family, going to Saints games, riding 4-wheelers and of course riding in the Krewe of Alpheus night parade.

King Shawn Paul Doherty

Doherty is a lifelong resident of Natchez and is married to Mary Kay Doherty. Together they have four children, Ian, 25, Lauren, 17, Chaz Jackson, 13 and Sydney Jackson, 10.

He is the son of the late Dr. Paul Augstus Doherty and the late Frances Joyce Cloy Doherty.

Doherty is a doctor of optometry at Doherty Vision Clinic.

He is a graduate of Cathedral High School class of 1975, a graduate of Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, La. class of 1979 and a graduate of Southern College of Optometry in 1983.

Doherty is a member of St. Mary Basilica. He is a member of the Krewe of Alpheus for eight years, a member of the Mississippi Optometric Association for 25 years, a member of the American Optometric Association for 25 years, a member of the Krewe of Killarney, and a member of the Santa Claus Committee in Natchez.

He enjoys watching sports, playing sports trivia, going for walks, watching movies, listening to music and spending time with family and friends.
