NATCHEZ — A Natchez man committed suicide Wednesday morning in the Adams County Jail, Adams County Sheriff Chuck Mayfield said.
The inmate was booked into the jail on charges of burglary of a commercial building and resisting arrest on May 6.
Mayfield said the inmate was alone in a cell when he hung himself from the top bunk with a towel.
“He got into a verbal altercation with another inmate, and the jailer put them in two separate cells,” Mayfield said.
He said when another inmate noticed the man hanging, he alerted the jailer, but it was too late.
Mayfield said the autopsy was completed with no sign of foul play.
“This is tragic for the family,” Mayfield said.
