VIDALIA — Services for Philip Harold Crothers Sr., 86, of Vidalia, who died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010, at Promise Hospital in Vidalia, will be at 1 p.m. today at Young’s Funeral Home with Dr. Ralph Webber officiating.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Lambert Cemetery, in Lambert, under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home in Vidalia.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time today at the funeral home.

Mr. Crothers was born Sept. 6, 1924, in Roxie, the son of Volney Marvin Crothers and Effie Bond Crothers.

Mr. Crothers proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was an auctioneer and a member of First Baptist Church of Vidalia.

Mr. Crothers was retired. He was employed by International Paper Company and was the owner and operator of Po Boy Palace in Vidalia. He was loved by his family and will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, John Marvin Crothers.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Evelyn Crothers; two sons, Tim Crothers of Brandon and Philip H. Crothers Jr. and wife, Kaye, of Bon Aqua, Tenn.; two daughters, Kay Merritt and husband, Ed, of Lyon and Alice Crothers of Vidalia; four grandchildren, Kate Hughes and husband, Michael, of Vidalia, Amanda Everett and husband, Peyton, of Brandon, Jay Merritt of Gulfport and Philip Yancey Hanks of Lafayette, La.; and one great-grandson, Cash Hughes.

Pallbearers will be Michael Hughes, Peyton Everett, Philip Crothers, Ed Merritt and Tim Crothers.
