The Miss-Lou is filled with good people. Look around and you’ll see all sorts of folks giving back to the community that they call home.

But most of the time, even the best among us are only able to give limited amounts of time, perhaps when it’s convenient to fit into our busy schedules.

Today, we celebrate and honor the legacy created by Clarence Bowlin, who has touched the lives of literally thousands of the area’s youth for generations.

Serving as the leader of the Natchez Dixie Youth baseball, program for 50 years, Bowlin’s impact on recreation and fun in the lives of the players, parents and fans is unmistakable.

For his life’s devotion to youth baseball Bowlin earns our 2009 Citizen of the Year award.

Although retired from his volunteer position at the baseball league, Bowlin is still active in promoting recreation in the area.

Bowlin’s story and that of eight other locals who were nominated by readers as Unsung Heroes are recognized in a special section today.

We are thankful that Bowlin and the Unsung Heroes recognized today call the Miss-Lou home. Each of these is a great example of the absolute best our community has to offer — great people doing great things for others.
