MONROE, La. — The Block Bears went one-and-done in the LHSAA Class 1A State Playoffs as they lost to the Ouachita Christian Eagles 60-56 Friday night in a bi-district round game.

“We were down 12 and came back in the fourth quarter. We had an opportunity to tie it with two seconds left,” Block head coach Kirfred Watkins said.

Unfortunately for Block, which came in as the No. 24 seed after finishing in a tie for second place in District 3-1A, that would not be the case. Ouachita Christian made a pair of free throws to preserve the win.

Block finished with an 8-15 record. Ouachita Christian, the No. 9 seed despite finishing fourth in District 2-1A, improved to 22-12 and will take on the winner of the Northwood-Delhi game next Tuesday in the regional round.

Lakeside 55, Ferriday 54

SIBLEY, La. — The Ferriday Trojans came up just short in pulling off a big upset in the bi-district round of the LHSAA Class 2A State Playoffs, as they lost to the Lakeside Warriors by one point Friday night.

Ferriday entered postseason play as the No. 27 seed after finishing second in District 2-2A and was a heavy underdog to No. 6 seed Lakeside, which tied for second in District 1-2A and had an impressive 24-8 record.

But the Trojans were not intimidated by the Warriors, giving the home team all they could handle and then some.

Yet the Warriors were barely able to escape with the win and keep their season going.

Ferriday ended its season with a 10-16 record.

Lakeside, now 25-8, will take on the winner of the Welsh-Evangel game next Tuesday in the regional round.
