NATCHEZ — The Natchez Police Department arrested a 22-year-old man at 6:30 a.m. Thursday — the day after he reportedly broke windows of and burglarized three cars on the edges of downtown.
The suspect, Dorsey Barontina, 43 Crocus Circle, reportedly targeted cars with personal items inside, Police Chief Mike Mullins said.
The first burglary was reported at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday from the 400 block of Madison Street. The right, front window was broken and a purse stolen from the car.
The second burglary was reported at 7:53 a.m. from the 300 block of Canal Street. The front passenger side window was broken and a $1,200 computer and power converter was stolen.
The third burglary was reported at 11:50 a.m. from the 300 block of Gastrell Avenue. The front driver’s side window was broken and a wallet stolen. Mullins said the victim found his wallet a block away.
Mullins said officers found evidence connecting Barontina to all three burglaries, and the stolen items have since been recovered.
He said the NPD is investigating whether Barontina is connected to other area car burglaries, but that current evidence links him to the three on Wednesday.
Mullins said he wanted to remind residents not to leave personal items in their cars.
Barontina was charged with three felonies for each count of burglary other than a dwelling. Mullin said Friday he remains in jail without bond until his arraignment.
