Hum in a garden? Library has you covered

Two rather different programs are scheduled by the Concordia Parish Library this month: “Fragrant Landscapes” and “The Secrets to Success in Country Music.”
But they’re not so different really if you hum a country tune now and then while working or relaxing in your garden.
The landscape program at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Ferriday Library will feature Jim Turner, a seasoned landscape contractor in Monroe for more than 25 years. Mr. Turner is also a Louisiana Master Gardener and a recent Biedenharn Gardens presenter in Monroe.
At the Ferriday Library, Mr. Turner will suggest ways to optimize your garden with fragrant shrubs, trees and annuals and will provide handouts detailing his discussion. Following the program the Ferriday and Vidalia Garden Clubs along with the Concordia Parish Library, who serve as sponsors of the event, will serve refreshments.
The Arcade Theatre in downtown Ferriday will open its doors Saturday morning, March 21, for a book seminar. Secrets to Success in Country Music by Gabriel Farago, a successful country and western performer in the 1980s and ‘90s, seeks to enable aspiring musicians in the country music field.
On Saturday morning, from 10 a.m. to noon, this former performer-turned-writer will give insight as to how some of the big stars got started.
Both programs are free and open to the public.
The Concordia Parish Library staff invites gardeners looking for sweet-smelling landscapes and country western enthusiasts to join them on Thursday, and Saturday, March 21, for two unique and compelling programs.
