TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — A couple in Louisiana plans to sell a 2-year-old thoroughbred horse named Greensburg and donate half of the revenue to help the tornado-striken Kansas town.
Tammy and Chad Hassenpflug of Vinton, La., raise and train thoroughbred and quarter horses. They named the horse Greensburg after seeing a program in June on the Discovery Channel about the south-central Kansas town and its attempts to rebuild following a May 2007 tornado. They say they especially liked the town’s focus on environmentally friendly construction.
They plan to sell Greensburg the horse at auction March 22. They won’t say how much they think the horse will raise.
They said they would like the money go to the athletic department of Greensburg High School and a student Green Club that promotes environmental awareness.
