John F. Kennedy, once said, “We do these things not because they are easy,” but because they are the right thing to do.

In the fall of 2007, Chad Kenney a close friend of the Loomis family, along with Leslie Keahey, Macy’s dance instructor wanted to do something to honor and remember the life of Huntington student and biggest fan Macy Loomis.

So the task began of forming the Macy Loomis Scholarship Foundation. A non-profit organization established to commemorate the life of Macy and her contributions to Huntington School.

On June 14 2007, two months before she was to turn 12, Macy was fatally injured in a traffic accident. Although truly saddened by her absence, we are confident that Macy is now in the presence of our Lord.

Macy started Huntington as a kindergartener in 2000. She was a good student and enjoyed learning. Macy loved Huntington and took great pride in its academic and extracurricular successes. That love and pride was instilled in her by her parents, Gregg and Melissa Loomis, who themselves graduated from and continue to support Huntington.

Macy was active in many areas at Huntington. She was a member in the Junior Beta Club, the 4-H Club, and was the 2006-07 recipient of the DAR Good Citizen Award. She played AYA basketball and was a cheerleader for the AYA football team. Macy had completed the sixth grade and was looking forward to moving up to junior high. She was most excited when chosen to be a 2007-08 junior varsity cheerleader. She was one of Huntington’s biggest fans.

Because Huntington was such a big part of Macy’s life, this scholarship was established to honor her memory and her life at Huntington. This scholarship will afford one deserving student the opportunity to experience all that Macy loved about Huntington.

The Macy Loomis Scholarship Foundation is currently soliciting donations, accepting memorials and honor gifts. With these funds a tuition scholarship valued at $4,675 is awarded on behalf of one deserving student to Huntington School each year. All funds contributed to the Macy Loomis Scholarship Foundation are tax deductible, as the foundation is listed as a non-profit organization.

In May 2008 the first scholarship was awarded to sixth grader, Adalyn Boyd, a student of Huntington School. Through this scholarship, Adalyn has been given the opportunity to enjoy all that Huntington School has to offer. As this school year nears an end, we begin the process of awarding the foundation’s second scholarship for 2009-2010. All students entering grades seventh to 12th are eligible to apply.

Applications are available in the office at Huntington School and at www.macyloomis.com. The deadline for this year’s application is April 3.

Student eligibility has been determined by criteria established by the Foundation Board of Directors. This scholarship is open to current and prospective students of Huntington School.

This award would not be possible without the generosity of many contributors.

Another student will again benefit from that generosity as the second winner of the scholarship award to be awarded in May.
