NATCHEZ — Lights illuminating the Mississippi River Bridge were shut off Tuesday for maintenance until further notice from the Mississippi Department of Transportation.
An MDOT press release said overheating issues caused the lights to be shut off.
“The cooling fans to the control box for the aesthetic lights are not working and has caused the control box to overheat. The lights will remain off until the contractor that installed the lights can make repairs to the fans,” said Robyn Jordan on behalf of District Engineer Albert White.
Steven K Foote II with MDOT Media and Community Relations said he was not aware of an estimated completion date of the repairs or the cause of the overheating.
The lights were first switched on June 25 of last year.
Infra Source Underground Construction Services, LLC of Glen Ellyn, Ill., was contracted for the $3 million project, which used 406 lights and 400,000 feet of wire.
Attempts to contact District Project Engineer Albert White were unsuccessful after receiving an MDOT press release after 4 p.m.
