NATCHEZ — It took a little while for the Adams County Christian bats to get going Monday night, but once they did there was no stopping them.

ACCS scored 13 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to break open a close game and rout Huntington 19-3 in non-district action Monday night.

“It was our first game in six days so it took us a little while to get going,” ACCS coach Hunter McKeivier said. “Their pitcher had us out on our front foot early, but by the third inning we made our adjustments.

The game was tied 2-2 after the top of the third inning but ACCS jumped back on top with four runs in the bottom of the third thanks to three Huntington errors.

The big blow came on a dropped two-out fly ball off the bat of Bryce Hunter by the Huntington centerfielder that allowed three runs to score.

Brandon Sanders followed with an RBI single to make the score 6-2.

Huntington once again closed the gap when Josh Lee hit a grounder that scored a run and made the score 6-3.

However, the Rebels exploded for 13 runs in the bottom of the frame to end the game early.

Colin Dollar got the scoring started with a two-run single and Murray followed it up with an RBI single of his own.

Sanders followed that up with another two-run single that chased Huntington starting pitcher Caleb Gillespie.

Things only got worse for the Hounds as they would go through three more pitchers in the inning, with none of them recording an out.

A bases loaded walk by T.J. Johnson brought home the 12th run before Christopher Perry smashed a two-run double down the line.

Dollar walked with the bases loaded and then Tanner Martin was hit by a pitch before Christian Creuder ended the game with a three-run double in the right-centerfield gap.

The game was called due to the four-inning, 15-run mercy rule.

“I thought we hit the ball well and were patient at the plate,” McKeivier said. “Anytime you put 19 runs up on the board you’re happy.”

ACCS will play district opponent Prairie View at home at 6 p.m. today while Huntington will travel to play at Tallulah.
