TORONTO — Jarrett Hoffpauir had a solid debut with the Toronto Blue Jays, even if his team didn’t fare so well.
Hoffpauir started at third base for the Blue Jays in their 9-4 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals.
He batted ninth in the lineup and only came to bat three times, but hit a single in the sixth inning and later scored on a ground out by Adam Lind.
In his other two times at bat, he popped up to first base and grounded out to third.
Hoffpauir also was flawless defensively in his debut at third base. He made three putouts on three ground ball chances.
The Blue Jays will play two more home games against the Cardinals before beginning a long road trip with a visit to Philadelphia for a three-game series against the Phillies beginning Friday.
