BATON ROUGE — Two weeks after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, former Trinity Episcopal standout and current LSU running back Stevan Ridley is going under the knife.

Ridley will have surgery to repair his ACL tear at noon today in Baton Rouge.

The surgery should last about three to four hours and will be performed by LSU team orthopedic surgeon Dr. Brent Bankston.

“This is my first major injury and surgery, and hopefully it will be the last,” Ridley said. “I’m nervous of course with it being a surgery, but I trust in (Dr. Bankston). He knows what he’s doing.”

Ridley said his faith in Bankston comes from the fact that the doctor has performed surgeries on numerous LSU standouts through the years.

“He’s worked on players like Joseph Addai and Justin Vincent,” Ridley said. “I’m very comfortable with him (performing the surgery).”

Ridley tore his ACL on the second day of spring practice two weeks ago while running a drill in shorts and jerseys.

Ridley tried to make a cut and his knee collapsed beneath him.

An MRI confirmed the torn ACL and it was determined the injury will keep Ridley out of action until September.

However, Ridley said he was fortunate that there was not much swelling, which has allowed the surgery to be scheduled just two weeks after the injury.

“I’m glad there was not much swelling and they were able to schedule the surgery so quickly,” Ridley said. “I really didn’t want to drag it out. I want to be able to start rehabbing and get back on the field as quickly as possible.”
