JACKSON — The Natchez Trace Compact recently announced that, during March and April, Ruth White, author of “Devil’s Trace,” a mystery set on the Natchez Trace Parkway, will sign copies of the book in several of its Mississippi member communities including Jackson, Ridgeland, Port Gibson and Natchez.
White chose to promote her book in towns along the Parkway, which provided the setting for “Devil’s Trace.” The Natchez signing will be from 1 to 3 p.m. on April 4 at Cover to Cover. Intrigue of the Natchez Trace lends itself to this mystery which begins when a travel writer finds an abandoned suitcase on the parkway. Its contents cause her to abandon a dream assignment and join forces with a private investigator as they solve a decades-old mystery.
Linda Butler Johnson, president of the Natchez Trace Compact said she hopes the book will promote the cities along the Trace.
“We wish Ruth’s book much success. Our goal is to show travelers not only the beauty of the Natchez Trace Parkway, but to pique their interest in those communities that lie beyond the trees,” she said. “There is so much culture and heritage on the parkway, and we hope Ruth’s book will encourage travelers’ to visit the Parkway and those communities.”
The Natchez Trace Compact was developed in 1999 with the state of Mississippi and five communities — Natchez, Jackson, Ridgeland, Kosciusko and Tupelo. Since that time, the organization has grown to include the Mississippi communities of Port Gibson, Raymond, Clinton, French Camp and Tishomingo County, the Alabama cities of Florence, Muscle Shoals, Sheffield and Tuscumbia and the Tennessee cities of Collinwood, Hohenwald, Leiper’s Fork, Franklin and Nashville.
