DES MOINES, Iowa — Former Natchez High School standout Ke’Airra Jones earned first team All-America honors after recording a fourth-place finish in the high jump with a mark of 6’0” at the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship Thursday.
Jones, a junior, cleared her opening jump of 5’7 3/4” on two attempts then made the next two heights on first attempts in staying among the top five jumpers. Jones cleared the 6’0” height on her third attempt before failing to clear the 6’1 1/4 height.
“It is great to see Ke’Airra earn All-American honors,” head coach Kevin Stephen said. “She has been so close the past two years and deserves it. It was an outstanding job of staying composed under pressure.”
Chastity Riggien ran a season-best time of 23.90 in the 200 meters, but it wasn’t enough to advance to the next round after finishing fifth in her heat.
Ramon Crockett, competing in the men’s long jump, completed his competition with a jump of 24’3 1/2”.
