Miss. House takes back nationalist honor — sort of

JACKSON (AP) — With little explanation, members ofthe Mississippi House passed a resolution several weeks ago honoring an event hosted by white nationalist Richard Barrett.
On Wednesday, they took it back — sort of.
The House used a procedural move to prevent final release of the resolution commending the ‘‘Spirit of America Day’’ that Barrett hosted to honor seven white teenage athletes.
The procedural move had the practical effect of killing the resolution — even though the resolution technically remains alive until lawmakers finally end their 2009 session, probably in May or June.
Some legislators said they’re not criticizing the teenagers; they just didn’t want to salute Barrett.
