CLINTON — The Natchez High track and field team fared well at the Mississippi College High School Track Meet despite facing some tough competition.
The boys team finished second in the meet while the girls team finished sixth.
Natchez track coach Larry Wesley was proud of his boys team, which finished only behind Pearl High School.
“We did very, very well,” Wesley said. “We beat most of the teams on the track. Pearl beat us because they have great distance runners. There were a lot of good teams there, teams from Memphis, Meridian and McComb. We performed very well.”
Two Natchez High athletes won their events, with Wesley Pendleton finishing first in the 100-meter dash and Rico Richardson winning the triple jump.
While the Bulldogs only had two wins, they had a glut of second and third place finishes.
Natchez finished second in the 200-meter relay with Jeremy Davis, Pendleton, Rico Richardson and Rolando Prater running for the Bulldogs, and also placed second in the 400-meter relay, with Travis Woods, Prater, Ernest Jonse and Joe Perry running that race.
Pendleton also finished second in the 200 meters while Jones finished second in the high jump and long jump.
Natchez garnered a third place finish in the 100-meter relay, with Davis, Woods, Richardson and Gabriel Campbell running in that event.
Richardson also picked up a third place in the long jump.
The girls team didn’t fare quite as well as the boys, but did have some good individual performances in the meet.
Alicia Wimley picked up three first place finishes, placing first in the 400 meters, 200 meters and triple jump.
The Bulldogs also picked up a win in the 400-meter relay, with Wimley, Jessica Gails, Lamesha Anderson and Jaquerra Williams running that event.
Gails also finished second in the 400 meters while Anderson placed second in the 300-meter hurdles.
The Bulldog track and field team will be back in action on Tuesday when they participate in the pre-district meet in Jackson.
