VIDALIA — After a seventh-inning comeback win Monday evening, the Vidalia Vikings carried that momentum into Tuesday’s non-district game with Block and manhandled the Bears 16-4 in six innings.

Vidalia (11-11, 5-3) batted out three doubles, a single, and drew three walks in a five-run first inning.

“We played with heart and intensity tonight,” Vidalia head coach Johnny Lee Hoffpauir said. “This game was a huge confidence booster and will hopefully help us in our district games this week.”

The Bears benefited from shaky defense behind Vidalia starting pitcher BJ Neely, but Neely stayed solid and held Block to only three hits in his three innings.

The Vikings pitched freshman Tucker Bruce in the fourth and fifth innings and sent Trey Lillie to the mound in the sixth inning.

“I thought all our pitchers did well tonight,” Hoffpauir said. “The defense was a little shaky, but they pulled through and played a lot better towards the end of the game.”

Block closed the gap to one run after four innings, but the Vikings answered with three runs in the fifth.

Vidalia then teed off in the sixth inning with two singles, a double, a triple, and a three-run homerun by Ben Parnham over the left-centerfield wall that ended the game via the mercy rule.

Neely was credited with the win for the Vikings while Bear pitcher John Davis was dealt the loss.

Seth Barlow led the Vikings with a 2-for-3 effort including a double, a single, and two RBIs.

Derek Adams was the only Bear with multiple hits in his 2-for-3 effort with a single and a double.

Vidalia travels to Avoyelles Thursday for an important District 3-3A matchup that the Vikings need to win in order to stay in the playoff hunt.
