In a decade long battle, one month won’t make much difference at all.

A temporary delay in finally fixing the Ferriday water system shouldn’t be considered a setback at all. The good news is still coming — clean water.

Mayor Glen McGlothin has made fixing water — once and for all — his mission since he took office. And he’s closing in on the finish line.

The town signed a $2.3 million deal with Triton Company earlier this year. The company will come to town in May to begin an overhaul of the old water system.

The company’s work will include replacing the existing water tank, adding a second tank, rehabilitating the existing water plant, implementing a water treatment system, installing new pipes and installing new water meters.

The town — independent of the Triton contract — is also going to be building a water retention pond.

The people of Ferriday deserve all the improvements, and McGlothin’s commitment to the project is to be applauded.

The mayor was hopeful work would start in April, but it has not. Now, May is the target month.

The fact is, this project isn’t just a month late. It is years overdue.

We know Ferriday will welcome fresh water with open mouths.
