Power goes out for hospitals

NATCHEZ — Both hospitals and several businesses and residential areas on Seargent S. Prentiss Drive and Jefferson Davis Boulevard were without power for a little over half an hour Tuesday afternoon.
Entergy Customer Service Manager Stephen Caruthers said a bad power line near the Grand Village of the Natchez Indians was thought to be the problem when electricity snapped out at 12:25 in the afternoon.
Entergy workers isolated the supposed problem power line from the main feeder line and worked to fix it, before reattaching it to the main line and restoring power at 1:06.
However, Caruthers said at 1:55, the power went out once more.
Another search for the problem behind the outage led to a faulty line on Temple Road off Jefferson Davis Boulevard, he said.
“It was a bad underground wire for the subdivision,” Caruthers said.
Power to the main line was restored by 2:02 p.m., but the subdivision feeding off the Temple Road power line was still without power while workers continued to fix the line.
Caruthers said he expected power to be fully restored Tuesday.
“I don’t see this as being anything more than just a failed piece of equipment,” he said.
And Caruthers said he wasn’t anticipating any further power outages.
