NATCHEZ — Services for Rosalie Barland Dixon, 93, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 1 p.m. Monday at King Solomon Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Freddie Schiele officiating.
Burial will follow at Pine Hill Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home in Ferriday.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday and from 11 a.m. until service time Monday, both at the church.
Ms. Dixon was born Aug. 5, 1917, in Natchez, the daughter of Fredrick Barland and Fannie Hill Barland. She completed her early education at Brumfield High School and also attended Natchez College. She was retired from West Brothers as a salesperson.
Ms. Dixon loved people and tried to help them. She loved her Lord and sought to please Him. She served the church well in a number of capacities: Sunday school clerk, senior class teacher, senior choir member and assistant and financial secretary.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest “Son” Dixon.
Survivors include two adopted sons, Charles Matthews Sr. and wife, Betty, of Natchez and Arthur “Pete” Johnson of Ferriday; adopted grandson, Charles Matthews Jr. and wife, Shalonda; adopted granddaughter, Camryn Ariyana Matthews, all of Jackson; four sisters-in-law, Julia Hevery of Lathrup Village, Mo., Henerietta Malone of Detroit, Julia Rose McCullan of Phoenix, Ill., and Freddie Robinson of Chicago; one nephew-in-law, James Mazique; and other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be deacons of the church.
