ITTA BENA — The Mississippi Valley State Delta Devil baseball team fell short in a comeback effort 7-6 Saturday afternoon at MVSU’s Magnolia Field.

Alcorn State jumped out, scoring two runs in both the first and third innings. MVSU got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning.

The Braves scored three more runs, building a 7-1 lead entering the final frame.

The Delta Devils’ bats woke to score five runs in the seventh inning; however, with runners in scoring position on a couple of occasions, MVSU would not overcome the deficit.

Alcorn State’s Tony Gonzales worked 6 1/3 innings for the win. MVSU’s Jeremy Breaux struck out seven in just over six innings in the loss.

The two teams will resume the series at noon today.
