FERRIDAY — Pilot Edwin Rowland III crashed his ultra-light plane into Old River near Lake Concordia at approximately 8 p.m.

Sheriff Randy Maxwell said witnesses on the scene saw Rowland swim to the levee, where he was pulled to safety. Details on his current condition were unavailable.

The plane sank.
