NATCHEZ — Services for Sarah Bacon Tyler, 100, of Natchez, who died Saturday, May 28, 2011, at her residence, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mark Baptist Church No. 2 in Kingston with the Rev. Kenneth Stanton officiating.

Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Robert D. Mackel and Sons Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Tyler was born Jan. 25, 1911, in Natchez, the daughter of Bennie Bacon Sr. and Laura Washington Bacon. She was one of 10 children, all of whom preceded her in death.

Sarah was baptized in 1922, at St. Mark Baptist Church No. 2, by the late Rev. B.D. Sims and served faithfully at St. Mark in a number of capacities. She loved her church and served as a member of the choir for a number of years. She was also a captain of the church’s fundraisers for a number of years and was in charge the refreshments.

Mrs. Tyler served on the Mother Board of the church.

She was a mistress of the culinary arts. Sarah was employed by the Milton Abrams family and the Sisters of Charity at Cathedral School, both of Natchez.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilson “Hoss” Tyler and one son and his wife, Jessie J. Williams and Marie Conner Williams.

Survivors include one granddaughter, Dorothy Williams, who she raised as her own from age four; one grandson, Anthony Williams, both of Houston, Texas; four great-grandchildren, Joe N. Grinell III and wife, Inga, Kijhana L. Session, Malaika L. Session and Nicole Breaux, all of Houston; eight great-great-grandchildren, DeLance, Gerry, Ilyse, Asia, Imani, Jordon, Ariana and Murcole, all of Houston; four nieces and nephews, Alfredia Bell Jones and husband, James, of Houston, Calvin Baker Jr. and wife, Louise, Carrie Baker Jackson and Melvin Baker, all of New Orleans; a special grandson-in-law who served her faithfully until her death, Joe N. Grinell Jr.; day and night nurses, Helen F. Conner and Elmira Fleming; and other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who she loved and cared for dearly.

Pallbearers will be deacons and trustees of St. Mark Baptist Church No. 2.
