NATCHEZ — After a closed-to-the-public meeting Tuesday to discuss economic development, the Adams County Board of Supervisors Attorney Bobby Cox said he hopes the board will have an announcement to make in the next week or two about a economic development prospect.

The board met at 1 p.m. with Natchez Inc. Executive Director Chandler Russ, Natchez Inc. Board Chairwoman Sue Stedman, Adams County Port Director Anthony Hauer and port attorney William Carl McGehee Jr.

Board President Darryl Grennell said the board intentionally recessed its May 20 meeting rather than adjourning, so they could reconvene at any time to discuss the prospect.

Cox said the prospect was discussed in executive session because the parties in question wish to remain confidential until negotiations are complete.

“Everything has not come together yet,” Cox said. “I hope it works out…We’re still under confidentiality (agreements),” Cox said.

Also at Tuesday’s meeting, Grennell welcomed County Administrator Joe Murray to the job. Murray started work last week.

Grennell said Murray has started mailing letters to department heads asking for budget requests for the next fiscal year.
