Graduates, events highlight week

With four local high school graduations behind us, the community has four more to go.
We know each hug and handshake is an important step for the future of our area.
But graduations at Ferriday, Vidalia, Monterey and Huntington weren’t the only great news last week.
Let’s review some other good headlines:
The Natchez Festival of Music had its first main stage performance of the season Saturday night — “The Fantasticks.” With several great performances to come, we know this year’s festival will be as great as always.
Sixty-one Natchez High School students will graduate this Friday with more than just a plain old diploma. Their diplomas will contain a special seal, that of a Mississippi Scholar. These students have completed a more rigorous course of study than their classmates, and they’ve succeeded. It’s great to see them recognized, and 61 is an impressive number we hope to see rise next year.
The Big Yam Potatoes Old Time Music Concert created some toe-thumping sounds at Historic Jefferson College Saturday. The event brings fiddlers and other musicians from around the state, and we hope they all enjoyed their stay.
The coming week will bring graduations at Natchez High, Cathedral, Trinity and Adams County Christian School, and plenty more good news we know.
