NATCHEZ — Just before 3:20 p.m., a shop caught on fire near a home at 15 Country Squire Road in Natchez, which then set off live ammunition in the building.
Natchez Fire Chief Robert Arrington said it gave both firefighters and neighbors “a scare” but everyone is OK and the fire is mostly out as of 3:40 p.m.; they are just “mopping up hot spots.”
“The house did not catch fire and is good as far as we can tell,” Arrington said. “The shed or shop was kind of a hobby shop where the homeowner stored their ammunition, and when it caught on fire ammunition did start to go off. Everyone is fine and we’re safe. It was a little scary but we’re OK.”
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
