NATCHEZ — Two people have been arrested for a New Year’s Day shooting on Dumas Drive in Marilyn Heights.
Natchez Police Department’s Commander Jerry Ford said on Friday police arrested Rashad Stewart and earlier this week arrested Treveyon Coach, 20, of Natchez and charged each with murder for the shootout that killed 21-year-old Jalen L. Griffin at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 1.
Ford said Griffin went to meet Coach and Stewart at an empty apartment for “some sort of transaction” when an altercation led to both Coach and Griffin getting shot and Griffin getting killed. Ford said multiple shots were fired and at least three guns were used by the three individuals during the incident.
Coach had been transported from Merit Health Natchez to Our Lady of the Lake hospital in Baton Rouge, where he had been treated and released from hospital care and arrested, Ford said. Stewart was not injured.
