Aug. 8, 1951 – Dec. 25, 2024
NATCHEZ – Michael Magee Puddister, affectionately known as “Pud,” passed away on Dec. 25, 2024, at the age of 73. Born on Aug. 8, 1951, in Washington, D.C., to John and Evelyn Puddister, Pud lived a life filled with humor, music, and cherished relationships.
Pud attended St. Joseph High School (Jackson), St. Bernard College (Cullman, AL), and the University of Mississippi School of Dentistry, where he earned his degree in 1987. A skilled dentist and a proud chemistry enthusiast, Pud operated a practice in Natchez.
On Dec. 15, 1978, Pud married Mimi Grace Puddister, his lifelong companion and partner in countless adventures. Together, they shared a deep love for music, traveling the country for unforgettable concerts and enjoying annual “boat rides” on the Keeping the Blues Alive at Sea cruises.
Pud’s passions extended beyond music. He was a proud father to his daughters, Joanna Puddister King (Justin) of Madison, MS, and Virginia “Ginny” Puddister (Chris Whitehead) of Baltimore, MD, and a doting grandfather to his grandson, Christopher King. Pud’s love for history, especially his fascination with the Alamo, and his enduring sense of humor made him a beloved figure in his family and community.
Active in Natchez events, Pud and Mimi served as King and Queen of the Mystic Krewe of Alpheus in 2006 and were regulars at local blues festivals. He was a loyal Saints fan, an enthusiastic historian, and a devoted friend, sharing his life with his closest companion, Jimmy Dukes, and a host of cherished family and friends.
Pud was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Johnny, and his brother-in-law, Jim Grace.
He is survived by his wife, Mimi; daughters, Joanna and Ginny; grandson, Christopher; siblings, David Puddister and Ann Puddister; sister-in-law, Pam Puddister; brother-in-law, Pat Grace (Charlotte), and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to extend special thanks to all who assisted Pud over the past year, especially Cammie Nettles; and Pud’s other “ride or die,” best-friend Jimmy Dukes. A special thanks to Pud’s trusty dental assistants, Alicia Beach and Miranda Marshall Robinson for putting up with him for many years; and to the best neighbors ever, Walt and Lashon Brown for helping take care of any needs over the past year.
Visitation was held on Monday, Dec. 30, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Laird Funeral Home in Natchez.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the charity of your choice or the Basilica of St. Mary in Natchez.
Pud’s life was a celebration of love, laughter, and music. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
