NATCHEZ – Funeral services for Jim Lewis Chatman Sr., 92, of Natchez, who passed away on Dec. 19, 2024, at his residence, will be held on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2024, at 11 a.m. at St. James Baptist Church with Pastor Wisonni Johnson officiating under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Grove A.M.E. Church Cemetery.

Visitation services will be held on Friday, Dec. 27, 2024, from 3 until 5 P.M. at the Marshall Funeral Home Chapel and on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2024, from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

Jim, affectionately known as “Big Jim,” was born on Jan. 21, 1932, in Franklin County, MS, to Winnie Foster Chatman and Isaac Chatman Sr.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac Sr. and Winnie Foster Chatman; three sons, Carl Chatman, Jim L. Chatman Jr., and Larry W. Chatman; two sisters, Ora Chatman, and Rosalie C. Kelly; five brothers, Isaac Chatman Jr., Julius Chatman, James Chatman, Charles Chatman, and Douglas Chatman; and one son-in-law, Richard Porter.

Jim leaves to cherish his memories, six daughters, Doris R. Chatman and Bettie J. Chatman of Natchez, Connie C. (John) Hicks of Clinton, MS, Veronica C. Stewart of Atlanta GA, Classie C. Porter of Houston, TX, and Wonder D. (Kyi) Washington of Hattiesburg, MS; two stepdaughters, Barbara C. (Michael Sr.) Hoggatt and Robin C. (Freddie) Battiste both of Natchez; six sons, Michael L. Chatman Sr., Patrick L. Conner, Christopher C. Conner, Kava T. Conner and Quinell (Catina) Davis all of Natchez, and Julius L. (Kimberly) Conner Sr. of Baton Rouge, LA; five brothers, John Chatman of Baton Rouge, LA , Kibby Chatman of Kenner, LA, Leo Hunt Sr. of Natchez, Peola Denham of Destrehan, LA and Lloyd Denham of St. Rosa, LA; two daughters-in-law, Joan Chatman and Corlis W. Chatman both of Natchez; two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Chatman of Baker, LA and Annie T. Chatman of Natchez; one brother-in-law, Tom Kelly Sr.; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
